In the Wired BioHealth podcast, hosts Jacqulyn Hall and Dr. Evelyn Higgins introduce their guest, Melissa Shepard, a counselor and therapist who collaborates with their health clients. They discuss their approach to addressing biological aspects of behavioral health, emphasizing the importance of understanding the psychology and social components as well.
Melissa shares a compelling case where they worked together to help a client in her late 60s who had struggled with severe anxiety and depression for most of her life. Despite numerous medical treatments and therapy, the client continued to face challenges. Melissa explains how they explored alternative approaches, including precision-based testing, to understand the client's unique physiology and improve her quality of life.
Through this testing, they identified significant imbalances and used supplements to address them. Over the course of two and a half years, the client saw dramatic improvements in her emotional regulation, mental well-being, and overall quality of life. Melissa highlights the importance of having a tangible understanding of the physiological factors contributing to a client's challenges and the hope it can provide.
The conversation delves into the evolving landscape of mental health support, with more people seeking help and embracing holistic approaches. Melissa emphasizes the importance of tailoring treatment plans to each individual's unique needs, whether they require medication or are looking for alternative solutions.
They also discuss how the combination of psychological support, precision-based testing, and optimized physiology can lead to life-changing results for clients. Melissa shares feedback from clients who have experienced significant improvements, showcasing the positive impact of their collaborative approach.
The episode ends with an email from a listener sharing their success story of using precision-based supplements to enhance their well-being and regain control over their life. This success story highlights the transformative potential of personalized approaches to mental health and wellness.
Overall, the podcast episode provides a comprehensive overview of how Wired BioHealth and their collaborator, Melissa Shepard, work together to address the biological, psychological, and social aspects of behavioral health, leading to remarkable improvements in clients' lives.

Welcome to the Wired Bioh Health podcast! In this episode, we had the pleasure of hosting Anthony Aur, the National Director of Faith-Based Services and Chaplain for Banyan Treatment Centers. Anthony shared his unique role in the world of addiction treatment, where he integrates faith and mental health to help clients on their recovery journey.
Anthony's journey into this field started in 2014, and he quickly realized the significant need for faith-based services in addiction treatment. Many individuals seek a spiritual component in their recovery, and Banyan Treatment Centers recognized this need and decided to provide faith-based programming as an option.
While about 25-30% of clients specifically come for the faith-based program, a surprising 80% of clients end up engaging with it, even if they initially had reservations. The power of faith, community, and connection plays a pivotal role in their transformation. Anthony highlighted the importance of addressing not only addiction on the surface but also delving deeper into underlying emotional and spiritual issues.
He also shared his own journey of addiction, recovery, and how his relationship with God helped him find hope and meaning in his life.
Anthony emphasized that recovery is a holistic process, and faith-based programs can provide the spiritual support many individuals need to rebuild their lives. Anthony talked about the impact of his therapy dog, who helped break down barriers and build connections with clients. Animals, he emphasized, have an incredible ability to provide unconditional love and support, making them valuable assets in the world of behavioral health.
Overall, this episode shed light on the vital role that faith, community, and connection play in the recovery process and how individuals can find hope and transformation even in the midst of addiction and mental health challenges.

Welcome to the Wired BioHealth Podcast with your host, Dr. Evelyn Higgins, and co-host Jacqueline Hall. In this episode, we dive into the critical topic of mental health diagnosis and treatment. We start by discussing the limitations of diagnosing and prescribing based solely on vocabulary, highlighting the challenges when patients and healthcare providers are not on the same page.
We share a startling statistic from Colorado University in 2022, revealing that more than half of people diagnosed with one psychiatric disorder will be diagnosed with a second or third in their lifetime, and about a third will have more than four. This raises the question of whether we are addressing the root causes of these disorders or merely treating symptoms.
We emphasize the importance of objective information and lab data to understand the underlying biological factors contributing to mental health issues. We discuss how neurotransmitter imbalances can't be reduced to a single neurotransmitter, as the body is always striving for balance.
The episode highlights the dangers of over-reliance on pharmaceuticals as a first resort without thoroughly investigating the underlying causes of mental health conditions. We discuss the role of genetics and epigenetics in mental health, explaining how identifying and addressing genetic factors can lead to more effective treatment plans.
We touch on the early diagnosis of mental health conditions in children and the potential consequences of medicating them without addressing the root causes. We also explore the role of resiliency in mental health and the exciting field of epigenetics.
Throughout the episode, we share real-life success stories and emphasize the importance of seeking personalized and evidence-based solutions for mental health challenges. We encourage listeners to reach out with their questions and stories, emphasizing that mental health support should be accessible to everyone.
